Epidemiological Case-Controlstudy to assess the risks of frequency-dependent occupational hand-arm-vibrations

For the assessment of hazards and for providing advice to enterprises as part of preventive measures, dose-effect relationships between the effects of hand-arm vibration and muskulo-skeletal diseases will be identified. The importance of the frequency composition of the exposure to the risk of desease will be examined. A register will be developed with the characteristic parameters of the frequency composition of the measured devices.


This is an epidemiological case-control study. The cases are defined as reports to the occupational desease no. 2103 between 2009 and 2012 (no. ca. 500), whose diagnoses are clinically confirmed. A control group that is comparable by age and sex (no. ca. 500) with possible effects of hand-arm vibration will be selected from the reports of occupational accidents in the same accident insurance institutions. During the study vibration measurements are taken at the devices, that were used by the employees. The results are consolidated in a register.
