Prevention of accidents on the way to and from work and accidents while travelling on work-related business in outpatient health and social care services

Aims:

Frequency of accidents on the way to or from work/accidents when travelling on work-related business of which 85 % of fatal accidents are apportioned to persons insured through the institution for statutory accident insurance and prevention in the health and welfare service. Goal: proof of the involvement of changeable operational factors in the increased risk of accidents on the way to and from work and accidents while travelling on work-related business, determining appropriate measures at an operational level and accompanying measures of the institution for statutory accident insurance and prevention.

Activities/Methods:

Survey in health and social care service companies (questionnaire campaign, expert and group interviews); analysis of the cause of accidents

Results:

Alongside the general accident frequency parameters (age, sex, route to work) particular operational characteristics also proved to be influential factors: size of the concern, management leave of absence, provision of care by safety specialists, regular work meetings
