Prevention of accidents on the way to or from work or when travelling on work-related business in veterinary practices

Project No. BG36 #037

Status:

completed 12/1997

Aims:

Frequency of accidents on the way to or from work/accidents when travelling on work-related business of which 85 % of fatal accidents are apportioned to persons insured through the institution for statutory accident insurance and prevention in the health and welfare service. Goal: proof of the involvement of changeable operational factors within the practice in the increased risk of accidents on the way to and from work and when travelling on work-related business; determining measures relevant to small businesses using the experience and ideas of the persons insured

Activities/Methods:

Survey in approximately 8800 veterinary practices (questionnaire campaign, expert and group interviews); analysis of the cause of accidents; determining appropriate measures at an operational level within the practice and accompanying measures of the institution for statutory accident insurance and prevention

Results:

As well as age, sex and route to work the frequency of accidents - deviating from the results of the study in doctors practices (see project BG36#032) - also varies according to Federal State and local authority; influential operational factors are high work loads (long working hours), constant availability, social isolation or inseparability of work from private life, negative attitude to work protection.
