Development of a gaschromatography measurement technique for determining the content of hexane in the air at the workplace

Project No. BG18 #004

Status:

completed 03/1998

Aims:

Air-contamination by hexane used in extraction at work places in oil mills. Goal: elaboration of a gaschromatography measuring technique for work place monitoring

Activities/Methods:

Work area analysis in five oil mills, ambient and personal air monitoring performed in the extraction or distillation area in accordance with technical rule (TRGS) 402

Results:

All procedural and substance-specific criteria for individual extraction processes were investigated. During continuous extraction processes the concentrations of n-hexane were less than 1/4 of the threshold limit value (in normal operation). During intermittent processes the values were about half the threshold limit value.
