The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), the umbrella organisation for German Social Accident Insurance Institutions for trade and industry and for the public sector, condemns Vladimir Putin's military attack on Ukraine. For statutory accident insurance institutions, the primary focus is the protection and integrity of each individual person. These values are being trampled upon in the war against Ukraine.

We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are in fear of losing their lives, their belongings and the freedom of their nation. We wish to show our respect to all those who are protesting against this war under the threat of repression in Russia.

Humanity is currently facing enormous challenges. The United Nations identified these issues in its Sustainable Development Goals in 2015. Among these goals – along with climate protection and the environment – are social security and the health and well-being of all people. This is where all countries of the world should direct their energy, instead of wasting it on senseless wars. We therefore join those who are appealing to the Russian government in saying: Stop this war!

Before this war began, we were connected with organisations, companies and workers in Ukraine and Russia in many different ways. Some of our employees have family and friends in these countries. We hope that this aggression will soon end and that we can resume these important exchanges for the benefit of all.
