Comparative analysis of different methods for quantifying strain during lifting and carrying

Project No. BG18 #036

Status:

completed 12/1996

Aims:

Prevention of work-induced damage of spine

Activities/Methods:

Examining feasability of limit values for lifting and carrying loads

Results:

Strain quantification results are strongly dependent on the model applied, values derived from different models are not comparable; Pangert and Hartung models cannot in principle take account of dynamic strains; data regarding posture and load are alone insufficient for strain analysis; because the strain limit values are always dependent on the model applied, the point of establishing general limit values must be questioned; strain analysis requires in principle a threedimensional model which takes account of the dynamics.

Type of hazard:

handling of loads

Catchwords:

Heben und Tragen von Lasten, Beanspruchung, Messverfahren

Description, key words:

The spinal strain values derived from different calculation models are not comparable, it is therefore not possible to determine limit values directly.
