Since 1989, the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance (IFA, formerly BGIA) has been providing round-robin tests for all dangerous substance laboratories and measuring stations for the purpose of self-examination and for the external presentation of quality standards within these laboratories. The round-robin tests are conducted to conform to the requirements of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043 and of DIN ISO 13528. Any interested laboratories anywhere in the world may participate.

The IFA co-ordinates its round-robin tests with other European OSH institutions, and successful participation in the round-robin tests is recognised throughout Europe. IFA is also one of the approved PT providers for the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Accreditation Program offered by AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs, LLC in the USA.
