Glycolether/-esters play an important role as components in solvent mixtures in chemical agents. The method utilised within the measurement system for hazardous substances of the Institutions for Statuary Accident Insurance and Prevention - BGMG was developed already in the middle of the eighties. As far as DIN EN 482 "workplace atmospheres - general requirements for the performance of prodedures for the measurement of chemical agents" is concerned it is, however, not completely validated.
The new procedure allows personal and stationary measurements. The sampling medium is activated charcoal. Desorption takes place with a tenary mixture of methylalcohol, methylene chloride and carbon sulfide. Analysis is made by gaschromatography with flame ionization detector (GC/FID). The detection limit comes in between 1 - 5 mg/m³ for a sampling time of two hours.
The measurement procedure is used as a standard within the measurement system for hazardous substances of the Institutions for Statuary Accident Insurance and Prevention - BGMG and it meets the requirements of DIN EN 482. Instructions for use are available.
