Coating surfaces with short organic fibres by electrostatic effects needs high voltages. Measures for equipment safety depend on material properties, i.e. minimum ignition energy of fibre dust, which have to be determined for typical fibre materials.
Experiments with a system, already used for gaining minimum ignition energies for powdercoatings (project F0059).
Minimum ignition energy > 80 mJ; in DC-operated equipment sparks need > 1300 mJ for ignition; arcs of AC-operated equipment (without current limitation) confirmed igniteability of all kinds of flock.
