Nearly online detection of the permeation of sensitizing, low-volatile ingredients of epoxy-resins as amines and glycidylethers and solvents through chemical protective gloves. In order to get representative results corresponding to DIN EN 374 the method was compared with the standard methods.
Modification of the method for measuring low-volatile amines in the air (GC/MS-CI, Project-Nr. FF0236) in order to measure the breakthrough. Development of adapted permeation testing cells. Optimizing the testing parameters by comparing the results using standard methods applied to solvents.
The scope of project included the development of a method to assay nonvolatile diamines and diglycidyl ethers along the permeation measurements with gauntlets for chemicals. In regard to the shape of the measuring unit according to DIN EN 374-3 various measuring units have been developed that were suitable for sampling with SPME portable field sampler and enable measurements at various temperatures. Beneath the favourite vapour sampling methods a water sampling methods was tested. It could be shown that both solvent and nonvolatile compounds could be easily detected and identified. The separation of the compounds within the gas chromatograph and the following assay within the mass spectrometer enabled the analysis of composite samples which contained solvent and nonvolatile compounds. In a further step a method was developed where a separate accumulation and subsequent segregation of compounds could be waived. With direct MS-coupling especially such compounds could be examined which due to their thermal instability or reactivity normally are out of reach for gas chromatography. In these cases the mass spectrometer was used as online detector. With the use of chemical ionization it could be ensured that composite compounds could be detected. As a whole the developed methods are a sensible addition to the established standard and specific methods. They offer a broad potential to examine composite compounds and so far difficult to access analytes.
