Aims:

In case of fire, smoke reduces visibility/function of optical guidance equipment. Quantity, effect and parameters have to be established in order to carry out best practice.

Activities/Methods:

Development of measuring devices for analysing optical properties of smokes; experiments in laboratory and field; modelling calculations

Results:

Only a combination of bottom-near continous guiding lines in luminescent color with electrically from inside lighted signs in short distance (2 m) guarantees a safe guidance in rooms/escape ways under smoke.
