Project No. BGZ 0001

Status:

completed 12/1997

Aims:

KOPAG aimed at developing methods for a health friendly work design bases upon the analysis of work load and strain. These methods supposed to be meeting the company's needs by showing the economic benefit of a health friendly work design. They are based on a comprehensive approach integrating the medical, psychological, technical and organisational aspects of work. By means of linking available data (secondary data) from the company health insurance funds, from the accident insurance, and from the companies with data gained by the project occupational health risks should be detected.

Activities/Methods:

The following data were analysed: company data, sick leave data from the company health insurance fund, accident data from the accident insurance, occupational disease data, industrial medicine data, results of the hazard assessment, results of the industrial medicine examination, results of the employee questioning. The data were linked by either the social security number or a newly designed number. All data were anonymized and analysed by multiple poisson regression.

Results:

The sales food jobs were detected to be conspicuous in all analyses. Here, as well as in the other low decision latitude was the most important influence factor for sick leave. Further factors of influence were heavy dynamic work and poor workplace design. Occupational health risks were identified by inferential analysis of the different data. For the first time sick leave data were linked with work load and stress information of types of work places in order to identify connections between working conditions and health status. The resulting workplace design recommendations were proved by a comprehensive economic efficiency analysis.
