Unit 5.3 in Division 5 is concerned with protective devices and control systems (electronics, sensors, computer technology, fluid technology).

The focal points in the field of protective devices are:

• Testing/certifying, researching and consulting on electro sensitive protective devices, such as light barriers, light curtains, laser scanners, vision systems, ultrasonic protective devices, protective devices using transponder technology (more in an interview, part 1 and part 2, in German)
• Testing/certifying pressure sensitive mats, pressure sensitive floors, pressure sensitive edges, pressure sensitive buffers
• Devising test guidelines and cooperating in the relevant standardisation bodies

The focal points in the field of control systems are:

• Testing/certifying, researching and advising on electronic safety components and controls, computer technology (eg: safety-related programmable logic controllers), safety-related bus systems, hydraulic controls, pneumatic controls
• Testing/certifying logical units for two-hand controls 
• Devising test guidelines and cooperating in the relevant standardisation bodies

The focal points in the field of hydraulics are:

• Testing/certifying, researching and advising on hydraulic safety-related components, hydraulic valves and hydraulic oil hoses
• Devising test guidelines and cooperating in the relevant standardisation bodies

The focal points in the field of pneumatics are:

• Testing/certifying, researching and advising on pneumatic safety-related components, pneumatic valves, pneumatic braking and stopping devices, pneumatic quick connectors
• Devising test guidelines and cooperating in the relevant standardisation bodies
