In the field of information technology, Division 1 is primarily concerned with the following responsibilities:

• Healthy working conditions at IT workplaces
• Software to assist the accident insurers in determining, assessing and documenting pollutants and other hazards at the workplace
• Coordinating and developing technical-scientific information technology at IFA

Division 1 covers the topic of  risk management throughout all its units:

• The unit "Applied epidemiology" assesses risks and the measures that aim to reduce them
• The unit "Toxicology of industrial chemicals" determines hazardous substance risks
• The unit "Monitoring of working conditions" documents and assesses exposure
• And the unit "Information on hazardous substances" provides information on how to recognise and decrease risks when handling hazardous substances.
