Contact:

Investigation on health effects of emissions from laserprinters and -copiers, Subproject BAM: Characterization of the emissions in a climatic chamber

Project-Nr. FF-FP0294B

Status:

ongoing 02/2011

Aims:

Possible negative human health effects by particle emissions from laserprinter devices are investigated in application-typical scenarios with volunteers in a climatic chamber at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich under controlled conditions. An explicit identification of possible health effects and an assessment on the influence of factors such as particle size and particle concentration will be made possible with a specialized experimental design.

Activities/Methods:

Selection of laserprinter devices based on an emission test standard. Characterization and modelling of particle emission behaviour based on aerosol spectroscopy. Modelling of exposition scenarios with laserprinter devices in a climatic chamber at LMU. Cross-over exposition of volunteers under standard working conditions in a climatic chamber with emissions from laserprinter devices. Detection of the reaction of volunteers devices. Detection of the reaction of volunteers will be done by standard psychometric instruments, lung functions measurements and with an innovative inflammation monitoring method.
