Presumption of conformity for DIN EN 954-1 extended by two years
The European working group of Machinery, under the leadership of the EC Commission has advised in early December on the extension of the presumption of EN 954-1:1996. The EC Commission has now adopted the extension period by two years.
A+A Trade Fair 2009: a resumé on product safety
At 2009s A+A event, the Expert Committee on PPE again formed trade-fair commissions with Düsseldorfs district government, in consultation with the trade-fair centres management. Extension of the presumption of conformity for DIN EN 954-1?
DIN EN ISO 13849-1 was first listed in the EU Official Journal in August 2008 and has given rise to a presumption of conformity since then. The presumption of conformity for DIN EN 954-1, on the other hand, expires at the end of this year. In accordance with the new Machinery Directive, 2006/42/EC, the presumption of conformity will become void as of 29 December 2009.
Standards relating to the new Machinery Directive, 2006/42/EC
European standards play an important role for machinery manufacturers, enabling them to build safe and health-friendly machinery. The European Commission has published an initial list of standards relating to the new Machinery Directive in the EU Official Journal.
Accreditation Body Act published in Federal Law Gazette
The "Akkreditierungsstellengesetz" (Accreditation Body Act) came into force on 6 August 2009 upon its publication in Federal Law Gazette issue no. 51.

On 6 May 2009, a further amendment of the Directive on Marine Equipment was published in the EU Official Journal L 113. Application of this Directive 2009/26/EC is compulsory with effect from 6 April 2010.
500th certificate for tested chains and fittings awarded

Testing and certification bodies of the expert committees on building and civil engineering merge
The two testing and certification bodies of the Expert Committee on Building and the Expert Committee on Civil Engineering have merged. The new name of the testing and certification body is: Fachausschüsse Bau und Tiefbau, Prüf und Zertifizierungsstelle im BG-PRÜFZERT (Expert Committees on Building and Civil Engineering, Testing and Certification Body within BG-PRÜFZERT).
Court confirms: using the "CE-tested" label for advertising is misleading
The ruling by the Landgericht Stendal (Stendal Regional Court) that advertising using the CE-tested label is misleading follows the opinion expressed by the Wettbewerbszentrale (Centre for Protection against Unfair Competition). The latter had taken legal action to stop a company from using the CE-tested label to advertise work gloves on the grounds that such advertising was misleading.
