Survey regarding QM Standard ISO 9001

Help to shape the future of ISO 9001.

30.12.2010

A broad-based survey is currently in progress regarding the Quality Management System Standard ISO 9001, the international original of DIN EN ISO 9001. In addition to comments regarding the use and suitability of and need for improvement to the existing Standard, it also asks about preferences regarding the future structure of the Standard. In this connection, a selection may be made from a range of options, such as replacing ISO 9001:2008 with a series of three standards offering a higher, medium and lower-ranked set of requirements.

This survey thus involves not only a potential improvement to the existing Standard, but also represents a fundamental crossroads in determining the future structure of the ISO 9000 family of standards, the effect of which will carry through to the year 2020. This survey is of particular significance to certified companies, given that some interested groups in the international standards movement are aggressively promoting a complete re-casting of the Standard, which would lead to a massive extension to the requirements involved. If the ISO 9001 Standard should be extended in this way, this would result in a not insignificant extra cost for certified companies to adapt their quality management systems and supply proof of compliance.

The future of the ISO 9001 standard therefore depends primarily on which of the suggested options the participants in the survey most strongly prefer. It is therefore of vital importance that as many participants as possible contribute to this survey.

Please actively participate in this survey to ensure that the German public is sufficiently strongly represented in the final result.
