Work-related and commuting accidents

  • Within the scope of the accident insurance institutions for the industrial and public sectors, a total of 954,459 reportable work-related accidents occurred in 2010 which resulted either in death or in incapacity for work for more than three days, an increase of 7.7 % in reportable work-related accidents. The risk of work-related accident per 1,000 full time equivalent employees (FTE) rise up to 25.8 (+6.3 %).
  • In 2010, 16,564 serious work-related accidents were recorded which resulted in payment of a pension or death benefit. The risk of serious work-related accident per 1,000 full time equivalent employees (FTE) thus fell by 1.5 %, from 0.455 in 2009 to 0.448 in 2010. In addition, 519 fatal work-related accidents occurred.
  • The 223,973 reportable commuting accidents in the industrial and public sectors constitute an increase compared to the previous year, from 4.24 to 5.25 per 1,000 insurance relationships.
  • The 6,076 new commuting accident pensions represent a rise in the accident risk per 1,000 insurance relationships, from 0.141 per 1,000 insurance relationships in 2009 to 0.142 in 2010 (+0.7 %). A slight increase was recorded in the number of fatal commuting accidents, from 362 to 367.
